Q. How long will it take for the Board to review my application and issue a nursing license to me if I meet the licensure eligibility requirements?
A. Once PCS has received your completed application INCLUDING all required application related documents (license verifications, transcripts, etc.), PCS will review your application. PCS will notify the Board electronically that you are eligible for licensure. You may not practice until your nursing license is posted on the Check-A-License page at https://checkalicense.hhs.state.ma.us where its status can be verified 24/7. This site serves as primary source verification of your new nursing license. You will not recieve a paper copy of your license; however, you or your employer may print a copy from the Check-A-License page.
Q. PCS has not received official verification of my license or APRN authorization from another state or jurisdiction in which I am licensed. How can you speed up the process?
A. For issues regarding verification of APRN authorization, the applicant must contact the specific state Board of Nursing directly. PCS has no control over timely submission of verification forms.
Q. Do I have to have a SSN before applying?
A. A U.S. Social Security Number is required. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 30A, s. 13A, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing is required to obtain your SSN on behalf of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR). If you do not have a SSN and are eligible for one, you must obtain one and provide it to the Board.
Q. Can I apply for RN by Reciprocity and APRN Authorization at the same time?
A. No. The APRN Authorization cannot be reviewed and approved until the RN by Reciprocity licensing has been completed.
