1. What are the requirements to take the examination?
There are no eligibility requirements in order to take the examination. Candidates must only submit a scheduling form and pay the examination fee. There are, however, a number of requirements to become licensed in the state of Tennessee. Please contact the state of Tennessee for licensure information.
2. How can I prepare for the examination?
Attend an installation seminar. Seminar candidates will receive reference information that may be used during the examination. Please contact the agencies listed at the bottom of the page for further information.
3. How can I obtain a scheduling form?
Scheduling forms are available on the PCS web page or you may call 877-364-3926 to request one.
SEMINAR CANDIDATES: A Scheduling form is not required. Registration must done through the seminar instructor.
4. How much is the examination fee?
The examination fee for first time candidates or re-examines is $160.
SEMINAR CANDIDATES: The fee is included in the Seminar registration.
5. When is the examination held?
The examination is held on the second Tuesday of each month.
SEMINAR CANDIDATES: The examination is administrated immediately after the seminar has ended.
6. Where is the examination held?
The examination on the second Tuesday of the month will be held in a central location that will accommodate the most candidates. Candidates will indicate their first, second and third site choices on the scheduling form. Please note there is no guarantee candidates will be assigned to their first choice. Failure to mark a second and third site choice could result in a delay in testing. Candidates will be assigned to the next available examination date for one of the site choices indicated on their scheduling form. The site choices are: Chattanooga, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee.

7. Is there a deadline to schedule for an examination?
Yes. Please refer to the PCS web site. The deadline is always the last Tuesday of each month.
SEMINAR CANDIDATES: The examination deadline will follow the same schedule as the Seminar registration.
8. When will I be told of my site location?
PCS will mail an admission packet to you approximately 7 days prior to your examination date. The admission packet contains an admission card (which has the site address), testing instructions and a site map.
SEMINAR CANDIDATES: The examination will take place in the same room as the seminar, immediately following the seminar.
9. Is this an open book examination?
Yes, you may use any reference materials during the examination. Copies of the American National Standard of Manufactured Home Installations (NCSBCS/ANSI A225.1-1994) will be available at the examination. You will not be allowed to exchange reference materials with any other examinee.
10. Can I cancel my examination?
You may withdraw from the examination but you will not receive a refund. Also, postponements or transfer of fees are not allowed.
11. When will I get my examination results?
Results are mailed to candidates and the State within 10 business days of the examination. Failing candidates may reapply to take a future examination with PCS. Passing candidates should contact the State to continue the licensing process.
12. What type of photo identification is required?
2 X 2 Passport Photo. If you do not have a passport photo, a photocopy of your Driver’s License will be acceptable.
13. Can the scheduling form be faxed?
Yes, it may be faxed with a Credit Card Number in the payment section. The fax number is 615-846-0153. Make it to the attention of “Tennessee Fire Protection Coordinator”.
