Barber
Be at least 17 years old
- 1,000 hours of instruction in a board approved school of barbering; or
- 1,000 hours of instruction in a board approved public vocational school; or
- 2,000 hours of instruction in a board approved apprenticeship program.
Barber Instuctor
Be at least 17 years old
- Hold a current Missouri Barber license.
Cosmetology (includes nails)
Be at least 17 years old
Hold at least a 10th grade High School Education or Equivalent
- 1,500 hours of instruction in a board approved school of cosmetology; or
- 1,220 hours of instruction in a board approved public vocational school; or
- 3,000 hours of instruction in a board approved apprenticeship program.
Esthetician
Be at least 17 years old
Hold at least a 10th grade High School Education or Equivalent
- 750 hours of instruction in a board approved school of esthetics; or
- 1,500 hours of instruction in a board approved apprenticeship program.
Hairdresser (does not include nails)
Be at least 17 years old
Hold at least a 10th grade High School Education or Equivalent
- 1,500 hours of instruction in a board approved school of cosmetology; or
- 3,000 hours of instruction in a board approved apprenticeship program.
Instructor
Be at least 17 years old
Hold at least a 10th grade High School Education or Equivalent
- Hold a current Missouri Cosmetology, Manicuring, or Esthetician License and have been licensed for at least three (3) years; or
- Hold a current Missouri Cosmetology, Manicuring, or Esthetician License and have completed 600 hours of formal instructor training.
Manicuring
Be at least 17 years old
Hold at least a 10th grade High School Education or Equivalent
- 400 hours of instruction in a board approved school of manicuring; or
- 800 hours of instruction in a board approved apprenticeship program.
Crossover Barber to Cosmetologist
- Have a Missouri Barber license that is current and in good standing; and
- Complete a minimum of 500 hours; or
- 2 years experience prior to applying may substitute 250 hours; or
- 3 years experience prior to applying may substitute 500 hours.
Crossover Cosmetologist/Hairdresser to Barber
- Have a Missouri Cosmetology/Hairdresser license that is current and in good standing; and
- Complete a minimum of 45 Barber hours (5 hours in History and 40 hours in Shaving).
