APPLICATION and TESTING PROCESS FOR VA:
STEP 1: Download and read your Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB).
STEP 2: Download and complete your application and all required documents prior to registering with PCS as directed in the CIB. For applications and required forms, click here.
STEP 3: Create an Account with PCS if you do not already have one. You will receive an email from PCS once you have successfully created your account.
STEP 4: Register and pay for your Exam (after you logged in) if you have not already registered. PCS accepts Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.
STEP 5: Go to your account home page and upload your completed application, and all other documents listed in your CIB.
STEP 6: Once your application has been uploaded, together with all required documentation, the VA Coordinator will begin to review your application and documentation to determine whether you are eligible to take the examination for which you are applying.
NOTE: After you upload your application to your account, you may check the status of your application at any time by logging into your account with PCS.
STEP 7: The VA Coordinator will email you if there are any deficiencies in your application or if you are missing required documentation. In some cases, the VA Coordinator may forward your application to the Board for review and approval.
Step 8: Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email from PCS stating you are approved to test.
Step 9: If you are taking the practical examination, PCS will email you an admission notice no later than 7 days prior to your scheduled examination. You must take the Admission Notice with you to the exam site, either in paper form or electronically.
Step 10: If you are taking the theory (written) examination, PCS will email you an Authorization to Test letter that contains instructions for scheduling your examination with Prometric.
Step 11: Take your examinations on the dates and times as scheduled.
Step 12: After your theory examination, you will receive an unofficial score notice immediately following your test.
Step 13: Within 10 business days from the date of your practical and theory examination, PCS will email your official results to you.
- If you fail an examination, instructions for reapplying will be provided on your score notice.
- Once all required examination(s) have been passed, you will receive a Notice of Completion and a Licensure Fee Notice that must be completed and provided to the DPOR prior to their issuing your license. Once you pass all required examinations, PCS will send your scores the DPOR.
NOTE: VA law mandates that all applicants must pass all required examinations within one year of the date you take your first examination. After that, you will be required to apply as a first time applicant and provide all documentation again.
